TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) - An Ohio man who fled to his native Canada after his wife was found dead on their porch in 2012 has admitted to killing her.

Kyle Sheppard pleaded guilty to a charge of murder Thursday in Toledo and was sentenced to life in prison. The Blade newspaper reports he’ll be eligible for parole after 15 years.

Authorities say Sheppard strangled 29-year-old Katie Sheppard because he suspected her of cheating on him. Her body was found in November at the couple’s Toledo home.

Investigators say Sheppard drove to Saguenay, Quebec, where he surrendered to police days afterward.

He was extradited back to Ohio last year after fighting extradition.
