LINCOLNTON, N.C. (AP) - Authorities in Lincolnton say a police officer shot at the driver of a stolen vehicle that hit two squad cars and injured another officer before driving away.

Lincolnton Police Chief Rodney Jordan said in a statement that the driver of the stolen vehicle made an abrupt turn and hit a police car responding to a call for help. Jordan says the driver then put the vehicle in reverse and hit a car whose officer had given chase. Police said that officer fired at the stolen car.

The first officer was injured and treated at a hospital.

Jordan said someone later flagged down a sheriff’s deputy and said he’d picked up a person who had been shot, but it wasn’t known if that person was the driver of the stolen car.
