SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (AP) - A Chicopee man who shot a man he claimed had stolen a $13,000 watch from him has been sentenced to up to 12 years in state prison.
Devin Roman shot the victim five times near the end of the St. Patrick’s Road Race in downtown Holyoke last March 19 when there were still large crowds in the area, although police say the shooting was unrelated to the race. The victim survived.
The Republican (https://bit.ly/2kErLhC ) newspaper reports that Roman was sentenced Monday after pleading guilty last week to charges including two counts of armed assault with intent to murder.
Prosecutors say Roman told police he shot the victim because he stole the watch and other items, and that Roman said the victim “deserved to die.”
