AMERICAN FORK, Utah (AP) - A lawyer for a former college basketball coach charged with threatening to blow up a school in Utah says his client is not mentally competent for trial.
The Daily Herald of Provo reports (https://bit.ly/2kEUdQc) lawyer attorney Dustin Parmley asked a judge on Tuesday to consider sending Christopher Dewitt Craig to the Utah State Hospital for treatment.
Judge Roger Griffin set a new hearing for Feb. 14.
Police say the 35-year-old Craig drove up to the school in Eagle Mountain with what he claimed was a car full of explosives in September 2016. He gave himself up after recording a message to the media on a police robot.
The school was evacuated and no explosives were found.
Police say Craig’s rising career was derailed amid brushes with the law and apparent struggles with mental illness.
