NEW YORK (AP) - Mount Vernon police shot and wounded a woman passenger following a car chase that ended in the Bronx.

Police tell The Journal News (https://lohud.us/2kPPGg9 ) the officers had pulled a car over Tuesday morning in Mount Vernon for having over-tinted windows, but the male driver sped away, nearly hitting the officers.

Police say the driver led police on a chase into the Bronx before veering onto a sidewalk and crashing into a metal barrier. Police say officers fired after the driver intentionally rammed a department cruiser.



The woman passenger was wounded in the shoulder. She was hospitalized in stable condition.

Police say the driver was arrested after a brief struggle. Charges are pending.
