SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - A Utah man has been found guilty in the death of a sheriff’s deputy’s death after he testified it wasn’t him but the officer’s brother who pulled the trigger.
A federal jury handed down the verdict Tuesday in the second case filed against 44-year-old Roberto Roman, who’d previously been acquitted of charges in state court.
Prosecutors said he killed deputy Josie Fox with an assault rifle because he refused to be arrested for selling methamphetamine in 2010, then blamed her brother Ryan Greathouse after he died of a drug overdose.
Roman said Greathouse was with him during the traffic stop and fired the fatal shots in the dark after they smoked methamphetamine together.
Roman was charged with killing a law enforcement officer after a state jury acquitted him on aggravated murder charges.
