GASTONIA, N.C. (AP) - The Charlotte man accused by authorities of hijacking an ambulance and assaulting the driver has made an initial court appearance.
Local media outlets report 22-year-old Bobby Renard Glenn appeared by video while seated in a wheelchair on Wednesday in Gaston County District Court. A judge declared Glenn indigent and appointed a public defender.
Glenn, who is jailed under a $250,000 bond, faces several charges, including felony kidnapping and child abuse.
Police say Glenn called 911 Tuesday, telling a dispatcher he felt like his life was in danger. He requested a police car for himself and an ambulance for his ill son. Police say Glenn refused to let the ambulance go to the hospital, and he’s accused of taking control of the driver and making him travel north on Interstate 85.
