RENNSELAER, Ind. (AP) - Charges have been dropped against a northwestern Indiana woman in the death of her 77-year-old stepmother.
The motion to dismiss charges against 70-year-old Judy Moore without prejudice was granted Jan. 25, days before she was stand trial on charges of murder, battery, aggravated battery and voluntary manslaughter in the Feb. 5, 2015, beating death of 77-year-old Trula Alliss. The women lived in the same apartment complex in Rensselaer, about 40 miles north of Lafayette.
Online court records show Moore was released from jail on her own recognizance last Sept. 27.
Moore’s defense attorney, Michael Riley, tells the (Lafayette) Journal & Courier he believes the state had little direct evidence that linked Moore to the crime or proved intent.
