AUBURN, Maine (AP) - A Lewiston man has pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the suffocation death of his infant son.
The Sun Journal reports (https://bit.ly/2kpE4NR ) that 26-year-old Danny Adams entered the plea on Wednesday. A murder charge he initially faced will be dismissed by prosecutors.
Adams will remain jailed until his sentencing, which is set for March 24. Attorneys failed to reach an agreement on a possible sentence.
Police say Adams forced a pacifier into the mouth of his 14-week-old son, Zade, and then held it in place in December 2014 to keep him from crying. Police say Adams told officers he had been using heroin and marijuana the night before.
The boy was pronounced dead at the scene after no neurological activity could be detected. Officials say the cause of death was asphyxiation.
