TRENTON, N.J. (AP) - The heavy snow is over across New Jersey, but motorists will face icy conditions overnight.
The fast-moving storm on Thursday hit the northern part of the state first before pushing south. Accumulations range from 10 inches in Vernon, 6½ inches in Basking Ridge and 2 inches in Freehold Township. South Jersey was spared the heaviest snow.
The state Transportation Department said it had more than 2,300 plows and salt spreaders on the highways.
The New Jersey State Police says troopers responded to 300 accidents and 350 calls to assist motorists.
The weather service warns that gusty winds could kick up through Thursday night. The service is urging caution for drivers, with black ice is possible overnight on untreated roads and sidewalks.
