VENTURA, Iowa (AP) - A northern Iowa woman accused of stealing from a breast cancer charity group has been given a five-year suspended prison sentence.

The Globe Gazette reports (https://bit.ly/2iatwVM ) that 51-year-old Leanne Hicks, of Ventura, received the sentence Monday and ordered to pay nearly $3,500 restitution to Buddies for Boobies. Authorities say Hicks stole that amount during the 19 months she served as the nonprofit group’s president.

Hicks entered an Alford plea in November to second-degree theft. Under an Alford plea, the defendant does not admit guilt but acknowledges prosecutors can likely get a conviction.
