TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - A man who was knocked down by a Marana police car after stealing a rifle and firing it while walking along a street it has been sentenced to 21 years in prison.

Mario Valencia was sentenced Monday in Pima County Superior Court on convictions for crimes that include armed robbery and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Valencia stole a rifle Feb. 19, 2015 from a store and then fired at least one shot in the air as he walked on streets in Marana, a Tucson suburb.

One of several responding police officers used his police vehicle to knock down Valencia, who was hospitalized for several days before being arrested.

The officer was cleared of using excessive force in the incident, which was caught on dash cam video.
