PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Police say a man shot in the head while attempting to break up a robbery at a home in west Philadelphia has died.

Officers went to the Conestoga Street residence around 10:10 p.m. Monday following reports of the attempted robbery and subsequent shooting.

Police say an armed man was robbing a 36-year-old woman when the 33-year-old victim intervened. The gunman shot the man twice in the head before running away with $20 and a cellphone he had stolen.

The victim was rushed to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center where police say he died.

Investigators believe the woman knew the man who was trying to rob her. No arrests have been made.

Police haven’t released the names of the dead man or the suspect.
