CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - Authorities say a woman has died following a collision last week with a Charleston police cruiser.

Police Chief Brent Webster tells the Charleston Gazette-Mail (https://bit.ly/2ierx12) the state Medical Examiner’s Office informed him Monday of the woman’s death.

Webster says the cruiser was driven by officer Stephen Doss, a two-year member of the Charleston Police Department, who is on paid administrative leave.

Doss was responding to a call about a burglary involving a knife when his cruiser collided with the woman’s car.

Webster has said preliminary information suggested the cruiser’s emergency lights and sirens were off, and it was traveling above the speed limit and in the left lane of the one-way road.

The woman, whose name was not released, was being treated at a local hospital.
