PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Police say one of three men suspected of stealing a car from a Providence home and crashing it into a telephone pole last week has died.

WPRI-TV reported (https://bit.ly/2j4jaWN ) Tuesday that police have identified 24-year-old David Carter Jr. as the man who died.

Police say Carter was in the back seat when the vehicle crashed into a pole on the morning of Jan. 4.

Police previously said a resident went back into his home after warming up his car. He saw three men jump in and speed off. The resident followed the trio a short distance until they crashed.

The other men who were in the front of the car have not been apprehended.
