PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - A hotel and restaurant owner wants Providence to join other cities in the U.S. in having a Little Italy neighborhood.

Gianfranco Marrocco says changing the name of the city’s Federal Hill neighborhood to Little Italy would bring more tourists to the area. Little Italy stickers would be placed on highway signs on Interstate 95, U.S. Route 6 and state Route 10.

WLNE-TV reports the proposed change was brought up at a Federal Hill Commerce Association meeting Tuesday night.

Marrocco says he believes the name Federal Hill doesn’t relay the message that the neighborhood will provide a great dining experience to out-of-town visitors.

WJAR-TV reported Marrocco has reached out to state Rep. John Lombardi about scheduling a meeting with Gov. Gina Raimondo’s office and the state Department of Transportation.
