JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - A 13-year-old boy faces adult charges of kidnapping and sexual battery after Jackson police say he sexually assaulted a 4-year-old girl.
Police Cmdr. Tyree Jones says the boy was arrested Wednesday after the alleged assault Tuesday. Jones says the boy took the girl into a wooded area in northwest Jackson. Jones says the girl was treated for injuries, but they weren’t life-threatening.
The Associated Press generally doesn’t identify juveniles accused of crimes.
Mississippi law says juveniles accused of kidnapping or other severe crimes must be charged as adults. A circuit judge could transfer the case to youth court.
Jackson Municipal Court Administrator Jeanette Banks says a judge denied bail on Thursday, jailing him. Banks says the boy was appointed a public defender, but doesn’t know the lawyer’s name.
