PARKSLEY, Va. (AP) - A Facebook photo that appears to show a neglected dog prompted sheriff’s deputies to investigate and charge an Accomack County man with animal cruelty.

Sheriff Todd Godwin says deputies began investigating after they were alerted earlier this week to a Facebook photo of a dog that appeared to be neglected and possibly dead outside a Parksley home.

Authorities say they found several neglected dogs and one dead canine on the property.

News outlets report that 21-year-old Jose Guadeloupe Berlanga-Francisco has been arrested and charged with one count of animal cruelty and one count of failure to provide proper shelter.

Twenty-three-year-old Luis Berlanga is accused of failing to provide proper shelter and failing to provide adequate food.

It’s unclear whether either man has an attorney.
