COOS BAY, Ore. (AP) - A section of road in Coos County has been permanently closed because of a massive slide.

The World newspaper of Coos Bay reports (https://is.gd/bzaenM ) that East Beaver Hill Road will eventually be rerouted to an uphill bypass that is expected to be finished by early spring.

County Roadmaster John Rowe says rerouting is cheaper than repairing the road and seeing it fail again in another spot.

The slide occurred a couple hundred yards off of U.S. Highway 101. Rowe says two slides joined together, making the road unstable. He also said there was a culvert failure, but doesn’t know if that was a factor.
