MIDLOTHIAN, Va. (AP) - Chesterfield County Police have charged a woman in the death of a 3-month-old boy at her unlicensed in-home daycare.
Media outlets report authorities have charged 52-year-old Carrie Persichini in the Aug. 23 death of Peter Hitt.
Police responded to Persichini’s home to investigate a report that the infant was unresponsive and undergoing cardiac arrest. The baby was pronounced dead at a hospital.
The Richmond Medical Examiner’s office says the baby died of sudden infant death syndrome related to an unsafe sleep environment.
An investigation revealed that Persichini didn’t have a state license to provide child care. Chesterfield Sgt. Brad Conner says Persichini was “routinely” caring for 16 children at a time. There were fewer there on the day the infant died.
It’s unclear whether Persichini has an attorney.
