SOCIAL CIRCLE, Ga. (AP) - Authorities have recovered the body of a child who went missing after a boating accident on Lake Johnson over the weekend.

Local media outlets report that officials with the Georgia Department of Natural Resources confirmed Monday that they found the 9-year-old child’s body.

Authorities say the child and an adult were in the boat on the lake in the Turtle Cove area when the accident happened early Sunday.

Officials say the adult was thrown from the boat and swam to shore, but the child was unable to escape.

Members of the DNR searched for the child by air and underwater using sonar and robotic vehicles.

Authorities have not released the names of those involved. The child’s body has been turned over to the coroner for an autopsy.
