PHOENIX (AP) - A Goodyear woman has pleaded guilty to first-degree murder in the 2014 death of her baby daughter.

Maricopa County Superior County officials say Phoeteama Neal changed her plea to guilty in the case Tuesday.

She’s scheduled to be sentenced on April 28.

Neal was accused of trying to drown the toddler in August 2014.

Goodyear police say the woman called 911, telling authorities that she had drowned her 21-month-old daughter.

She was formally charged with first-degree murder after the girl was taken off of life support the next month and died.

According to court documents, Neal was in the middle of a custody battle with the father of the child at the time of the attempted drowning.
