NEW YORK (AP) - The head of the New York City Economic Development Corporation will become the city’s housing commissioner.

Mayor Bill de Blasio said Tuesday that Maria Torres-Springer, an expert in affordable housing and neighborhood planning, will start her new post on Feb. 6.

The outgoing commissioner, Vicki Been, will return to teaching at New York University.

The mayor has appointed James Patchett as president and CEO of the Economic Development Corporation.

Patchett has served as chief of staff for Alicia Glen, who’s deputy mayor for housing and economic development.

Before joining the mayor’s office, Patchett was a vice president in the Urban Investment Group at Goldman Sachs.
