MACON, Ga. (AP) - A 47-year-old Macon woman is charged with aggravated assault after authorities say she shot a teenage boy in the head as he and his friends walked by her house.

Bibb County sheriff’s officials say Elisabeth Cannon, a former nurse, shot 15-year-old Vernon Marcus Jr., who was walking past her house shortly before 8 p.m. Monday.

The Telegraph reports that Marcus fell on the sidewalk, about 30 feet from Cannon’s driveway and was taken to a hospital in critical condition.

Bibb County sheriff’s Sgt. Linda Howard said Cannon had called deputies hours before the shooting because “kids were throwing rocks at her home.”

WMAZ-TV reports that Cannon has been released on a $12,400 bond. Jail records do not list an attorney for her who could be reached for comment.
