CARTHAGE, N.C. (AP) - A Moore County man has been arrested and charged with murder for a shooting death at his home.

Sheriff’s deputies told local media outlets that 62-year-old Gregory Thomas Short of Carthage is charged with murder in the death of 55-year- old Jeffrey Dowd about 6:15 p.m. Wednesday.

Sheriff Neil Godfrey said in a statement Thursday that Short is also charged with possession of a gun by a felon.

Deputies found Dowd when they responded to a report of shots fired at Short’s home. Deputies said the two men had argued before the shooting.

It was not known if Short has an attorney.
