NEWARK, N.J. (AP) - Authorities say a Newark man wanted by police pointed a gun at some Essex County sheriff’s officers when they saw him at a city bus shelter.
County Sheriff Armando Fontoura says 18-year-old Isiah Rhynes ran off when the officers pulled up to the shelter in a marked cruiser on Sunday afternoon.
Rhynes allegedly pulled out a handgun during the foot chase and aimed it at the officers, who then drew their service weapons. Fontoura says Rhynes tossed his gun to the roof of a nearby building and was soon arrested on a weapons charge without further incident.
Fontoura said Rhynes was being sought on several charges, including aggravated assault, receiving stolen property and weapons offenses. It wasn’t known Monday if he has retained an attorney.
