TAYLORSVILLE, N.C. (AP) - Investigators in Alexander County have accused a Taylorsville couple of abusing their 7-week-old baby and 16-month-old child.

Alexander County sheriff’s investigators told The Charlotte Observer (https://bit.ly/2kbcojo) that 22-year-old Zachary Elijah Puckett is charged with three counts of felony child abuse, and 25-year-old Summer Brianna Lewis is charged with accessory after the fact of felony child abuse.

Puckett is jailed on $750,000 bail. Lewis is held on a $75,000 bail, and it’s not known if they have attorneys.

Investigators said they received a report Jan. 5 from the Alexander County Department of Social Services regarding possible child abuse. Investigators went to a Winston Salem hospital where the baby and child had been taken.

Authorities won’t describe the injuries, but said the children are now in the custody of county social services.
