President Obama named Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson as the “designated survivor” during the inauguration ceremony of Donald Trump on Friday.

The designation meant that Mr. Johnson did not attend the event, in case of a mass disaster such as a terrorist attack at the inauguration. He would have been in line to lead the government in such an event.
