PRINCETOWN, N.Y. (AP) - State police say a third person has died of injuries suffered in a two-vehicle crash on interstate highway in eastern New York that also killed a couple and left their three children injured.

Troopers say the accident occurred around 7:35 p.m. Sunday on Interstate 88 in the Schenectady County town of Princetown, 15 miles northwest of Albany.

Troopers say a 28-year-old Stephen Cipriano of neighboring Rotterdam was driving west when he crossed the median and struck an eastbound vehicle. He was taken to an Albany hospital, where he died Monday morning.

Police say the couple in the other vehicle, 45-year-old Timothy Batchler and 44-year-old Stephanie Batchler of Schenectady, died at the scene.

The couple’s 19-year-old son and 11-year-old twin daughters were treated at an Albany hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

I-88 was shut down in both directions until around 4 a.m. Monday.

This story has been corrected to change the dateline and location of the crash to Princetown instead of Rotterdam and corrects time of crash to 7:35 p.m. instead of 8 p.m.
