FLINT, Mich. (AP) - A sheriff says a Flint-area woman faces elder abuse charges after her mother was found lying in a urine- and feces-covered sheet, suffering from ulcers and sores that may result in a partial amputation of her left leg.

Genesee County Sheriff Robert Pickell says the daughter was arraigned Sunday on charges of first- and second-degree elder abuse. The Grand Blanc Township woman was jailed on a $75,000 cash/surety bond.

He says his office received a tip from adult protective services that her 73-year-old mother was being abused. It wasn’t clear when deputies found the woman, but she remained hospitalized Monday awaiting the amputation recommended by doctors.

Pickell said the older woman was malnourished, weighed only 90 pounds and hadn’t eaten or had water to drink for more than 13 hours.
