PRESCOTT, Ariz. (AP) - Yavapai County authorities are trying to determine if human remains recently found are those of a man missing for nearly a decade.

County Sheriff’s officials say Larry Powers was last seen in April 2007 at gold mining stores in Wickenburg and Salome.

They say the then 58-year-old Powers was a partner in a mining claim outside of Bagdad, Arizona with Anthony Richards.

Sheriff’s officials say the 53-year-old Richards was arrested last May in Oregon, accused of identity theft and fraud charges for alleging using the credit card of his ex-business partner.

Powers was declared to be presumed dead by a California court in 2012.

Sheriff’s detectives are working with the county medical examiner to confirm the identity of the remains.

Richards remains jailed on a $100,000 bond in Camp Verde.
