ATHENS, Ala. (AP) - An escaped Limestone County inmate is back in custody after authorities say he beat his girlfriend and stole her car.

Multiple news agencies report that authorities say Christopher Cody Usery was on work release when he left his post at Vulcan Plastics in Athens on Sunday.

County sheriff’s Office spokesman Stephen Young says Usery is accused of “brutally beating” his girlfriend in the parking lot. Young says the woman had two broken bones in her face.

Deputies say someone spotted Usery walking Monday and alerted authorities. He was then recaptured.

Usery is being held on escape, theft and domestic violence charges. It’s unclear if he has an attorney.

Deputies are still looking for the stolen vehicle described as a silver 2010 Chevrolet Malibu with Alabama license plates.
