DOYLESTOWN, Pa. (AP) - A suburban Philadelphia man is headed to prison after pleading guilty to stealing antique jewelry and family heirlooms from the home of a federal judge who was sick and later died last year.
The (Doylestown) Intelligencer (https://bit.ly/2jsO7RJ ) reports that 56-year-old Scott Michael Kear pleaded guilty Monday to charges including burglary and receiving stolen property.
He was sentenced to four to 10 years behind bars and ordered to pay more than $60,000 in restitution.
Authorities said in a criminal complaint that they believe the Doylestown man may have started pawning Judge Edmund Ludwig’s items in February 2016. The thefts ended in May, days after a memorial service for Ludwig.
In court, Kear called his behavior a “disgrace” in light of his family’s longtime friendship with the judge and his family.
