PORT HURON, Mich. (AP) - A 33-year-old man has pleaded guilty in the fatal hit-and-run death of a 79-year-old homeless woman in Port Huron.

The Times Herald of Port Huron reports (https://bwne.ws/2kn4IKZ ) Matthew Jarvis entered the plea Monday to one count of failing to stop at the scene of an accident causing death. He’s scheduled to be sentenced Feb. 21.

Jarvis was arrested in October after police received new information on the case. Eleanor Denise Smith was struck by a vehicle and found Sept. 2, 2015. She died a short time later.

Jarvis’ girlfriend, Ann Marie Chubb, is charged with lying to police during a criminal investigation. Court records say a judge denied Chubb’s motion that her interview with a detective be thrown out for allegedly violating her Fifth Amendment rights.

Chubb is awaiting trial.
