TRENTON, N.J. (AP) - A teenage boy accused of shooting a 16-year-old girl who was riding in a stolen minivan has been indicted on murder charges.

Mercer County prosecutors announced the 16-count indictment against 18-year-old Peter Charles Jr. on Tuesday. The Trenton resident was 17 when the shooting occurred last April, but his case was moved to adult court in November.

Prosecutors say Ciony Kirkman and several other juveniles were in the minivan when Charles allegedly shot at the vehicle. Kirkman was struck in the head and died a few days later at a hospital.

A motive for the shooting hasn’t been disclosed.

Charles remains jailed. It’s not known if he’s retained an attorney.

The indictment charges him with murder, six counts of attempted murder, seven counts of aggravated assault and two weapons offenses.
