RENO, Nev. (AP) - A district attorney’s office in western Nevada has cleared a deputy of criminal wrongdoing after he shot a 19-year-old Reno man, who then turned the gun on himself and died.
Lyon County District Attorney Stephen Rye announced Wednesday that the deputy’s actions were justified in the February 2016 incident.
Officials say the deputy spotted Tristan Conti and three juveniles outside a Silver Springs casino after the group stole a man’s car.
The group didn’t comply with orders to put their hands up and Conti shot at the deputy, striking his hand and patrol vehicle.
The deputy returned fire, shooting Conti and one of the juveniles.
Officials say Conti then shot himself in the head and died from the self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The wounded juvenile was treated at a hospital and released.
