MARYVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - The Tennessee Highway Patrol says two people were killed and five others were injured in a two-vehicle accident on U.S. Route 411 in east Tennessee.

The Highway Patrol says a pickup truck driven by 51-year-old David Kirkland of Vonore crossed the center line and collided with an SUV on Saturday.

Media outlets report Kirkland was charged with two counts of vehicular homicide, two counts of vehicular assault and driving under the influence.

The Highway Patrol says a passenger in Kirkland’s pickup, 49-year-old Rebecca Kirkland, was killed along with a passenger in the SUV, 28-year-old Matthew Sherwood of Maryville. David Kirkland and four others sustained injuries that didn’t appear to be life-threatening.
