BAYONNE, N.J. (AP) - Police have charged a New Jersey man with killing his mother after she was found unresponsive with visible trauma inside her apartment at a Bayonne public housing project this weekend.
Hudson County prosecutors announced Monday that Michael Metro was ordered held without bail on one count of murder in the death of his 69-year-old mother.
Kathleen Metro’s body was discovered Sunday in a third-floor unit of the public housing building at East 50th Street and Avenue E. The medical examiner ruled her death a homicide after determining that she died of asphyxiation.
Michael Metro was arrested after police found him in the courtyard behind the building suffering from upper body injuries. He remains hospitalized at Jersey City Medical Center.
It’s unclear if Metro has an attorney who could comment.
