NEW ORLEANS (AP) - Louisiana State Police say a 4-year-old boy died after running into the path of an SUV on a highway in the New Orleans suburb of Metairie.

In a news release, state police say 4-year-old Isiah Winfrey and his mother, Patience Winfrey, were walking along U.S. Highway 61 Sunday evening. The child broke free of his mother’s grasp and ran into the right traffic lane. He was struck by a Chevrolet Suburban driven by a Jefferson man.

Troopers said the driver did not have alcohol in his system and it does not appear that speed was a factor in the accident. No charges were filed.
