WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) - Delaware State Police say a man trying to cross a street in Wilmington was struck and killed.

The agency said in a news release that the crash occurred Monday morning on Kirkwood Highway near Limestone Road. Troopers say 47-year-old Mark Northam of Wilmington tried to cross the highway and was hit.

Police say Northam was thrown onto the hood of the car and then fell into the road. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities say Northam was wearing all dark clothing and was not at a marked crosswalk.

Troopers say the driver of the car was not hurt and charges are not expected.
