AMERICAN FORK, Utah (AP) - A 35-year-old man Utah man has been arrested after he allegedly fired several shots into the back of an American Fork police officer’s patrol car.

Police Sgt. Josh Christensen said Monday Seth Patterson was booked into the Utah County Jail on several charges, including suspicion of aggravated murder, assault and domestic violence in the presence of children.

Christensen said an officer responding to a domestic violence complaint was waiting for backup Sunday night when Patterson drove away from the home and toward the officer, forcing him off the road.

He said Patterson then exited the vehicle with a gun and, as the officer tried to drive off, fired several shots into the back of his cruiser.

The officer escaped injury. Patterson surrendered at the police station about two hours later. It wasn’t immediately clear if he had a lawyer.
