TRENTON, N.J. (AP) - Republican New Jersey state Sen. Diane Allen says she’s retiring after this year due to medical issues.

A former broadcast news anchor in Philadelphia and Chicago, Allen has served in the state Legislature since 1996.

Allen says she has medical concerns that would make running for re-election this year difficult. But she believes she can serve until the end of the year.

Her Burlington County-based district includes Bordentown, Burlington and Willingboro.

The district is mostly split between the parties, with Democrats controlling the two Assembly seats.
