WORCESTER, Mass. (AP) - A woman is headed to prison in connection with the 2015 shooting death of a Fitchburg man.

Twenty-eight-year-old Janelle Haley was sentenced Monday in Worcester (WUS’-tur) to more than two years behind bars after pleading guilty to charges of child endangerment and accessory after the fact.

Authorities say Haley was a passenger in the car Andrew Mathieu was driving when he shot and killed 24-year-old Roy Rivera in May 2015. Mathieu and Haley’s 7-year-old son was also in the car.

Mathieu pleaded guilty last year to manslaughter and other charges under a plea deal. He was sentenced to 15 to 19 ½ years in prison.

Mathieu had said he shot Rivera in self-defense after Rivera struck Mathieu in the head with a bottle.
