DECATUR, Ala. (AP) - A Decatur woman charged with the murder of her husband has been ruled competent to stand trial.

WAAY-TV reports (https://bit.ly/2hSBhQ5 ) a mental evaluation of 44-year-old Michelle Owens was conducted by Dr. Glen King, a licensed psychologist with the Alabama Department of Mental Health and Mental Retardation.

Owens was arrested June 26 after police found the body of Lawrence Edward Owens II in their home. Police said Michelle Owens shot and killed him.



Court documents say if either the state or Owens wants reconsideration, they have 14 days from the date of the Jan. 4 order to file a request.

Michelle Owens remains in the Morgan County Jail on a $1 million bond.

Officials have not released a possible motive for the shooting.
