FRESNO, Calif. (AP) - A mentally ill Fresno man has been ordered to stand trial for killing his brother while he slept nearly two years ago.

The Fresno Bee reports (https://bit.ly/2hWCT9M ) that a judge on Wednesday ordered 23-year-old Jose Luis Cerna Manzo to face a murder charge for the February 2015 killing of 29-year-old Jesus Cerna Manzo.

Defense lawyer Roberto Dulce says his client plans to plead not guilty by reason of insanity.

According to court records Cerna Manzo suffers from schizophrenia and other mental illnesses.

Court proceedings were suspended in March 2015 when Cerna Manzo’s mental competency was called into question. He was sent to Atascadero State Hospital and ordered to take anti-psychotic medicine to restore his competency. He retured to the Fresno County Jail in December 2015.
