CEDAR CITY, Utah (AP) - Police in southern Utah have arrested a 14-year-old boy accused of sexually abusing a 3-year-old.

Cedar City police Sgt. Jerry Womack says the teen was arrested Tuesday and his case was referred to a juvenile court.

Womack told The Spectrum of St. George (https://bit.ly/2iUNQqK ) that police believe the teen assaulted the younger child, a relative, at a home in early December.

He says state child welfare officials are involved and setup a plan to keep the two children from having any additional contact.

It wasn’t clear Thursday if the teenager was being held in a juvenile detention center or if charges had formally been filed. Womack did not return a message from The Associated Press seeking more details.
