AURORA, Colo. (AP) - An Aurora man charged with causing a crash that left a 16-year-old girl paralyzed by throwing a rake at the vehicle she was riding in has been sentenced to three years in prison.

The Aurora Sentinel reports (https://bit.ly/2jahuaP ) that 61-year-old Kenneth Duane Schlager was sentenced Thursday after being convicted of criminal mischief and reckless endangerment in connection with the November 2015 crash.

Schlager had been raking leaves in his front yard when he says a Jeep began speeding down his street.

Prosecutors say Schlager hurled the rake at the vehicle, shattering the windshield and causing the 20-year-old driver to lose control.

The Jeep then slammed into a parked car and rolled over, injuring the teenage passenger.

Police say the vehicle had been going 36 mph and the speed limit was 25 mph.
