Guard injured in disturbance at Mississippi state prison

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - The Mississippi Department of Corrections is investigating a disturbance that left a prison guard injured

Department spokesman Grace Simmons Fisher says the guard was in stable condition in a hospital Friday after the incident Thursday night at the Mississippi State Penitentiary at Parchman. The department did not release the guard’s name.

Multiple prison staff members responded to a disturbance in a building in Unit 29. Fisher says some inmates were injured but did not require hospitalization.
