BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - A Jefferson County employee is accused selling fake driver’s licenses while working at the revenue department.

County officials told media outlets in a statement Wednesday that 49-year-old Tamiko Monique White was arrested Dec. 27 and charged with trafficking in stolen identities.

Investigators say White, whose duties included issuing driver’s licenses and non-driver identification cards, sold fake driver’s licenses to anyone who wanted one.

Authorities sent someone in undercover to purchase one and say the transaction was video and audio recorded.

Vestavia Hills police Lt. Steve Gurley says investigators don’t yet know how many fake driver’s licenses had been sold or over what period of time.

County Manager Tony Petelos says White is on paid administrative leave pending the action by the personnel board.

It’s unclear if she has an attorney.
