RIDGELAND, Miss. (AP) - Police are charging a man with aggravated assault after a shooting in a suburban mall’s parking lot.

Ridgeland Police Chief John Neal said police arrested Gregory Rivers following a shooting Friday at the Renaissance at Colony Park. Neal says another man was injured.

The police chief says both men worked at a Panera Bread restaurant at the mall and that the 21-year-old Rivers brought a gun to work in a backpack, possibly to settle a dispute with the victim.

Neal says more than a dozen shots were fired around 11 a.m. The victim, hit once, went to a nearby restaurant where he received aid before being taken to the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson.

Police arrested Rivers elsewhere at the mall. It’s unclear if Rivers has a lawyer.
